Sarah M. Haynes was born in Alabama and raised in the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Her mother educated her aboard a boat built by her parents, and the sense of isolation, stark beauty and Bohemian living found in island life ultimately contributed to her development and worldview as an artist. Upon moving to Charleston, Haynes placed into the Charleston County School of the Arts as a Visual Arts Major. She studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art on full scholarship in the Pre-College Summer Residency Program, and earned a BA in Studio Art from the College of Charleston.
Haynes has exhibited locally in several shows, including Portrait Slam at Eye Level Art and Redux Contemporary Art Center, The Dark Arts Ball at Eye Level Art, Student x Faculty and Girls Girls Girls at Redux, has been a chosen artist in the Halsey Gallery Young Contemporaries Show, and has most recently been a featured artist in Charleston City Gallery’s Charleston Contemporaries 2010: Influence show. Haynes has spent time living in New York City, and her mural of the Brooklyn Bridge is on permanent display at Townhouse Art Gallery in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She currently lives in Charleston, SC.
