    how can they afford this kind of care…my stepmom takes care of my dad by herself and is losing the battle

    Researchers found that increasing consumption of carotenoids, beta-carotene & lutein, might reduce the risk for this progressive neurological disease, which attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Carrots, yams & mangoes are rich in beta-carotenes, & spinach, collard greens & egg yolks are good sources of lutein.

    However, diets rich in the antioxidants lycopene, beta-cryptoxanthin & vitamin C do not apparently reduce the risk for ALS.

    TUESDAY, 1/29/13 (HealthDay News) Study tied foods like carrots, spinach & yams to lower risk of Lou Gehrig’s disease. Eating bright orange, red or yellow fruits & dark-green vegetables rich in antioxidants may help prevent or delay the onset of ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

    My dad is suffering from ALS, we just went through trach placement and he will be ablt to go home today back at home. This story is so inspiring. I can not help but cry.
